The past few weeks, I have had a couple patients come to the office complaining of fatigue, sleep and memory issues, increased stress and an inability to lose weight.  We decided to measure the cortisol levels in these patients using a 24-hr. saliva test, thereby acquiring a more accurate reading of these levels throughout the day.  Cortisol (a stress hormone secreted from the adrenal gland), should be highest in the morning and slowly decrease through the day.  The results showed excessive cortisol levels all day, meaning that these patients are in 'fight or flight' (sympathetic) mode all the time.  For them, there is no 'rest and repair' (parasympathetic) stage.  Their brain is constantly working; thinking about something.  If you think about driving a car, their foot is always on the gas pedal.....it doesn't know where the brake is!  Yikes!

Not to worry, we have a couple of great solutions:  Seratran provides homeopathic serotonin to help the body slow down (rest and repair); Relax-Tone assists in the relief of nervous energy, restlessness, sleeplessness and anxiety.  Hypothalmapath provides support for the hypothalamus, which is the 'master gland' of the body.
